Steam Whistle UNSIGNED is an ongoing concert series that showcases Canada’s indie music talent, while also developing its future. UNSIGNED has to date featured over 70 independent Canadian acts and have raised over $70,000 for local artists. To bring these events together, Steam Whistle teams up with Pandor Productions, Now Magazine, and Gibson Guitars.
The Artists’ Health Centre subsidy program provides $750 over a twelve-month period to artists to help pay for physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy and naturopathic care at their facility. These treatments aren’t covered by OHIP and many artists who are in need of these services in order to continue working, are not able to afford them.
The education program they provide, helps artists prevent and reduce injuries by teaching them about useful self care strategies and tools. Some of the workshops and clinics they have run in the past year have focused on nutrition, the psychology of performance, stress management and injury prevention.
From just the first two years of concerts, Steam Whistle has raised over $11,000 for the Artist Health Centre.
